Positives brings the science of positive psychology to life in a way that helps not only children, but adults as well, feel happier, more optimistic, and more resilient during troubled times.
In this story beautifully illustrated by Cat Charm, Annie helps Dan cope with his depression using one of the most powerful tools in positive psychology: the Three Good Things exercise (also known as Positives!). As the Positivity Pals practice the exercise together, Dan’s mood begins to improve — and Annie and Zeke discover that they feel better too.
Future books in the series will explore Annie’s anxiety and Zeke’s struggle to fit in. Annie is supported by her imaginary emotional support animal, Mr. Face, while Zeke tries to impress others and find his place by constantly switching hats. Together, the group learns to apply the science of positive psychology as passed down through Annie’s Grandpa Marty (a playful nod to Martin Seligman, the founder of positive psychology). By working together, they discover healthier ways to face their challenges and support one another.
Although Positives is written primarily for children, it is very much a book for adults as well. The Happiest Therapist, Frank Clayton, includes a special section for parents and caregivers that introduces positive psychology and explains how these same ideas can help adults become happier too. After all, one of the most powerful ways to help children thrive is to lead by example. Research shows that when one person becomes happier, it can positively influence hundreds — even thousands — of people, especially those closest to them.
As the Positive Kids series grows, it is our intention to formally study its impact and demonstrate that these books help both children and adults become happier, more hopeful, and more resilient. Please consider subscribing to receive updates about new books, sneak peeks, and future merchandise.
